This is the picture of the flooding in Waynesville, MO. The Roubidoux Creek runs through Waynesville. Normally, it has about a foot of water. There are expecting it to crest at 21.25 ft. A four year old child and mother were lost in the flooded creek. The body of the four year old has been found. This will set a new record for this creek. The highest crest before was 18 feet. The Gasconade River will crest near Jerome, MO at 30.74 feet. Normal flood stage is 15 ft. and the record is 31.3 feet. I-44 flooded near exit 172, the Jerome Exit. The State Department of Transportation has rerouted traffic. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for several areas in the Central Missouri area. Many people in this area are without power. Community shelters have opened for those who have no place to go. People from the area donated shoes and clothes and food to help those evacuated from the floods.
Why is this referred to as an Act of God? God did not cause this to happen. Yet, it leaves us with the question, why me? why now? Is God punishing us? God does not bring tragedy or destruction upon us. These rains are being caused by the jet stream and stalled fronts that are bringing in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico causing rain and thunderstorms.
Is God with us. Yes, God is here. God responds with food, clothes, shoes, emergency crews, and volunteers who reach out a helping hand. God will take this bad and turn it into something good. Listen to these words:
Romans 8:28
New Living Translation (NLT)
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
This is the time to place our trust in God and allow God to show us the way.
