WHO SHOULD BE PERSON OF THE YEAR?

We seemed to be obsessed with awards and recognition.  An email requested that I participate in voting for the person of the year.  I didn't see one person on that list I thought should have such an honor.  Yes, they were famous people.  Yes, there were powerful people.  Yes, there were some people
who accomplished extraordinary things. But they did not appeal to me for they are only a tip of the iceberg. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are out.  Barack Obama is not the one.  Not even Hillary is on my list an forget Miley Cyrus or the Pope for that matter.

MY NOMINEES:

JOHN WAGEARNER, JANE MAJORITY, SOPHIA SILENT, AND LIAM ORDINARY

This morning we are going to have freezing rain and snow with very low temperatures where I live.  Men and women will arise, shower, dress, and head to work regardless of the weather.  They will serve coffee at Starbucks, deliver newspapers, make Breakfast biscuits at McDonalds, manage an Accounting Department with 15 employees, stay home with a sick child, and many other services.

I especially nominate my son and his wife, my two daughters and their husbands, and all seven of my grandchildren.  They have faced medical problems, working more hours than the past, raising children, being children, and yet they face the challenges striving to provide for their families.  They are great parents, good children, and definitely involved in their community.  My hats off to you for who you are!

I nominate my friends who are always there.  They put up with my failings.  They offer encouragement and give in so many ways.  I nominate my neighbor who always brings me food or stops to say hi and check on how I am doing.

I nominate all of the ordinary people who are not famous yet keep going, keep giving, and keep providing.  You protect us, serve us, and seek to do the right thing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!  It is an honor to know you, to meet you, and share this place we call earth.
